The positive mechanical seating force of the lock-in-place seals maintains tight shutoff through vibration and pressure and temperature changes. A rigid cast steel body resists pipeline bending moments, helping preserve sealing integrity in demanding pipeline environments.PTFE seals on both faces of the valve provide drop-tight sealing even at low differential pressure, while metal-to-metal contact between the seats and gate mechanism ensures fire-safe shutoff. Optional all-metal sealing configurations are available for service temperatures up to 1,000°F (538°C), with leakage rates compliant with API Spec 6D.
The Pow-R-Seal gate valve is a preferred solution for pipeline operators transporting liquids, as it tolerates wax, paraffin, abrasives, and multiproduct flow that can cause sealing issues or premature wear in other gate valve designs.

The stem seal uses a single SLS™ spring-loaded lip seal that has been fugitive-emissions and fire tested, reducing maintenance requirements and eliminating the need for plastic packing. An external differential thermal relief system protects against excess body pressure. Seat and stem injection ports allow lubricant or emergency sealant to reduce operating torque, extend valve life, and provide emergency sealing capability. How does a double expanding gate valve work?
The Pow-R-Seal expanding gate valve uses a two-piece gate and segment assembly.
In the fully closed position, the segment engages an end stop and the gate wedges
downward, expanding the assembly to create a tight mechanical seal against both
upstream and downstream seats.
What happens during opening and closing?
During opening, the gate slides across the wedge angle of the segment, collapsing the
assembly so it can travel freely between the seal faces. A lever-lock gate centralizer
holds the mechanism in a neutral position until seal expansion is required.
How is flow isolated in service?
When the segment bore aligns with the conduit bore, an end stop prevents further travel
and the gate slides across the wedge angle, expanding the gate and segment to isolate
flow from the valve body. A preferred flow direction helps ensure smoother operation
and reduced operating torque.
